U.S. Grant Birthday Celebration

and Civil War Living History Encampment

on April 17-19, 2009 in Galena, IL

Walk back in time and experience a living history Civil War encampment complete with 2 Civil War Battles.  Tour General Grant's Home, watch a 1865 General's News Conference or attend General Grant's Birthday Ball.  These are just a few of the many activities offered at the U.S. Grant Birthday Celebration.  Most of the events are free!  Festivities start Friday evening with a Lamplight Tour of the Grant Home.  The Living History encampment begins Saturday at 10 am with a boom of the cannon and ends with the gaiety and dance of the Grant Birthday Ball.  As the picture below portrays, Mike and Anita Reese, Innkeepers of the Queen Anne Guest House, enjoy a bit of refreshment after dancing at the Grant Birthday Ball.  A favorite Sunday event is attending the Civil War Era Church Service and Potluck at the Methodist Church.  Grant Birthday Celebration offers something for the entire family.  So come to Galena and join in the fun.  Listed below is a schedule of events.  For questions please contact the History Museum at 815-777-9129 or visit www.galenahistorymuseum.org.
