Galena Gateway Park

Galena Gateway Park
After nearly 18 years of endeavor, the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation (JDCF) successfully purchased 100 acres known as the Galena Gateway Park. This area will be preserved for future generations to enjoy and permanently protect the pristine view of Galena from Highway 20 along Horseshoe Mound. Galena Mayor Terry Renner states about the official acquisition, "An exciting result of many years of dedication and perserverance." Future plans for Galena Gateway Park include hiking trails with panoramic views of the Mississippi River Bluffs of Iowa, mounds in Wisconsin and the entire historic distict of Galena with multiple scenic overlooks and primitve camping area. Remnants of local history include an 1840-1870 farmstead and lead mining.
