The Queen Anne Guest House was the Grand prize winner at the Galena Beer Cookoff on April 17, 2010! What an exciting day for the Queen Anne as Innkeepers Mike and Anita Reese won in four categories! The Grand prize went to Mike for his Black Bean Chicken Chili made of course with Galena Beer! All food entries had Galena Beer as one of the ingredients which was the one and only requirement for the contest. Mike also won the People's Choice Award in the soup category for his Black Bean Chicken Chili. Anita won fourth place with Honorable Mention for her Galena Beer Bread and also won the People's Choice Award for her Galena Beer Cheese appetizer.
The Galena Beer Company will soon be opening the Galena Brewery located in downtown Galena which is scheduled to open June 2010. You can watch their progress on Facebook as work continues at the Brewery. The Galena Brewery will also feature a pub. In the 1850's, when Galena was a thriving mining boomtown, brewings were plentiful but now only one brewery, the Galena Brewing Company, will once again serve Galena and it's visitors two great ales in the honorable beer brewing tradition. The first beer made by Galena Beer Company was the Fevre River Ale. Fevre River Ale is a classic hefeweizen, lightly hopped, with a smooth finish with clove and banana overtones. Miner's Treasure is the second beer produced by Galena Beer Company. It is a mellow, caramel, amber ale designed to warm the heart, and satisfy the thirst.
Until the renovation of the Galena Brewing Company is complete in June 2010, Galena Beer is being brewed by the Sand Creek Brewery of Black River Falls, WI. This brewery was the 2000 World Beer Cup Gold Winner. The Galena Brewing Company is located in downtown Galena IL shopping district. For further details please visit www.galenabrewery.com.
